The American Carbon Society cordially invites all colleagues who are active or interested in carbon science and technology to the Carbon 2001 Conference, an International Conference on Carbon in Lexington, Kentucky, USA. An important change to note is a departure from the traditional format of Carbon Conferences. The Carbon 2001 technical sessions will be grouped by field of application and interest, rather than categories of carbon. This is being done in an attempt to align more closely with industrial fields of interest and will cover a wide spectrum of carbon research and utilization. |

| As such, it will provide a forum for the transfer of information on recent advances in carbon and give insight into the future of the field. | |
| When Lexington originally became the site for the 2001 meeting, it was due to the vision, hard work and leadership of CAER Director Dr. Frank Derbyshire. As many people know, Dr. Derbyshire died unexpectedly in August, 1999. Those of us who assisted him in the early days of planning hope to make this meeting as successful as possible in his honor and memory. | |
