American Carbon Society Organized Events

The American Carbon Society was primarily formed to organize useful events for our Membership. We are currently offering 3 classes of events:

  • The Carbon Conferences
  • Workshops & Symposiums That Focus On Specific Topics In The Broad Field Of Carbon.
  • The Graffin Lecture Series Of Educational Lectures Presented By Cutting-Edge Researchers In The Field Of Carbon.

    The Carbon Conferences

The American Carbon Society liases with the European Carbon Association and the Carbon Society of Japan to organize an International Conference on Carbon on an annual basis. Thus, each of these 3 organizations is responsible for holding an International Carbon Conference in their geographical region once every 3 years.

The American Carbon Society Carbon 2019 Conference

To date, American Carbon Society has organized our International Carbon Conferences at an American destination, in 2001, 2004, 2007, 2010, 2013, and 2016. We are currently hosting Carbon 2019 in Lexington, Kentucky, USA.

Prior to 2001, we hosted Biennial Carbon Conferences for our Membership.

Papers presented at our Carbon Conferences are available for download by our Membership from our online Conference Archive

The American Carbon Society Workshops & Symposiums

We have organized many workshops for our Membership, and are currently offering 2 satellite workshops, on each side of the Carbon 2019 Conference.

Symposium & Workshop – Carbon Fibers And Their Composites And Applications

    The American Carbon Society Workshop
The American Carbon Society Workshop – Carbon Fibers, Composites, & Applications

Co-Sponsored by Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Location: New Hope Center, Oak Ridge, TN, USA
    Dates: July 11-12, 2019

This symposium and workshop is designed to promote the science and technology of Carbon Fibers and Their Composites to a multidisciplinary audience of students (undergraduate and graduate), post docs, and early career engineers and scientists:

    • Plenary-type lectures given by leading experts in manufacturing, characterization and applications of carbon fibers & composites
    • Research presentations
    • Poster session and reception
    • The Workshop includes 2 optional tours:

      • Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF) – Helps industry adopt new manufacturing technologies to reduce life-cycle energy and greenhouse gas emissions, lower production costs and create opportunities.
      • Carbon Fiber Technology Facility (CFTF) – Offers a highly flexible, highly instrumented carbon fiber line for demonstrating advanced technology scalability and producing market-development volumes of prototypical carbon fibers (the last step before the commercial production scale).

NOTE: Non-US citizens will need to register before June 1 for access to each of the these sites.
